Tension Control
Cygnus®
Compact yet powerful, the Cygnus® is a dramatically different tension control with advanced features that are easy to use.
Operators can easily navigate through advanced tension control functions and codes using on-screen prompts displayed in full text, making the setup process faster. Web tension is maintained or adjusted using multifunction "smart keys", similar to those used in ATM's, and a large backlit display for easy viewing.
The standard DIN panel mount Cygnus saves valuable panel space with it's compact packaging. At less than four inches in depth, Cygnus door mount applications leave plenty of space to mount components on the panel immediately underneath. For retrofit applications there is an IP65 enclosed version allowing for convenient mounting to the machine frame or wall.
"The Cygnus tension control system has decreased our waste from 15% to just over 3.5%. Considering most of our jobs are short runs this is nice savings." Tom Rouze - Printing Director / Astor Chocolates |
Converters and printers can dramatically reduce setup time and improve consistency with powerful features like automatic tuning and out of round roll compensation (previously only possible with a dancer control). Complex tension settings can be input quickly with full text prompts as opposed to more complicated input procedures of the past.
The operator is quickly guided through the setup process and fine tune adjustments, without extensive training or the need of constantly referencing a separate manual.

VERSATEC™ versatile tension controllers
Controlling your web tension doesn't get easier than this! The VERSATEC Versatile Tension Control is a
multi-function automatic tension or process controller that uses the US-2 Ultrasonic Sensor to measure distance and roll diameter. It has selectable operating modes for Unwind, Rewind, Dancer, Free Loop, or Ranging applications.
This flexibility eliminates the need to learn the operation of different controls for different tension zones. The VERSATEC does it all.
The VERSATEC keypad and display provide an intuitive, user friendly operator interface in any operating mode. The control is versatile and powerful, yet very easy to set up and operate. All setup and operating screens are indicated directly on the multi-line alphanumeric menu driven display in real words, not codes, with the corresponding values or status. From the keypad and display, you can control all operating parameters for any operating mode, including tension, distance, dancer position, loop position, alarm set points, security, language and units, and setup selection.
US-2 Ultrasonic Tension Control Applications: By utilizing the US-2 Ultrasonic Tension Control unit with the VERSATEC control, you can have accurate control by measuring the diameter of the roll. This fully automated ultrasonic tension control system allows your core and full roll alarms to be adjusted to give your operator a signal before reaching the end of the roll. This allows you to reduce scrap by utilizing the entire roll on your web.

Spyder Plus
Designed for precise closed loop tension control, the Spyder is capable of controlling web tension in unwind, rewind, point-to-point or dancer applications. It measures tension from one or more MAGPOWR load cells and outputs a corrective analog signal to control a torque device. Its reduced
size means it can be hidden away in an enclosure or underneath the machine.
With its ethernet connection, the Spyder can be viewed on a web browser for remote troubleshooting, programming and/or data collection. Additionally, the Spyder provides an analog input for Manual Level setpoint, control inputs for Run/Stop, Auto/Manual: Tension On/Off, and E-Stop, and a 0-1 mADC meter output proportional to measured tension. The Spyder is a cost effective, easy-to-use control capable of delivering advanced features such as adjustable taper tension to nearly any application.
Features:
- Powerful tension control at an affordable price used to control clutches and brakes, or interface directly with a drive
- Troubleshooting and parameter access via a web browser, html file format
- Adjustable taper tension
- User-friendly keypad and display
- Versatile control for unwind, rewind, point-to-point or dancer
